McDonald’s nutrition experts worldwide depend on a central internal portal to search, edit, and manage nutrition and ingredient information. With a global footprint, regional menu variations, and constant innovation, McDonald’s menu is highly dynamic. Yet, the internal platform supporting this dynamic business asset fell significantly short.

Built with a legacy Jakarta Server Pages (JSP) framework, the existing application was slow, unintuitive, and inefficient, leading to frustrated employees and decreased productivity.

Essential features were hidden deep within nested menus, further complicating user workflows. More critically, the outdated JSP framework introduced escalating cybersecurity risks. McDonald's recognized that a comprehensive overhaul was urgently required, turning to Wolfco to modernize their internal Digital Nutrition Application.

The Solution

Wolfco began by conducting an extensive UX audit and gathering direct feedback from McDonald’s global nutrition experts. The insights gained clearly identified pain points and opportunities for improved workflows and efficiency.

We collaborated closely with McDonald’s to redesign the user experience, optimizing workflows to eliminate frustration and enhance productivity.

Next, Wolfco retired the legacy JSP application, replacing it with a lightweight, serverless solution hosted on AWS S3. Leveraging React JS and Material UI, we developed a responsive, intuitive interface that streamlined interactions and aligned with modern cybersecurity best practices.

For instance, the legacy system required separate server requests for each search, causing delays. The new application’s powerful client-side handling enabled near-instantaneous search results from a single universal search bar, significantly improving user satisfaction and productivity.

The redesigned application seamlessly integrates modern UI/UX principles with robust cybersecurity, addressing all critical needs in one unified solution.
